7th International Conference on History and Philosophy in Science Teaching

I dared to propose a lecture to this conference and was very happy to be accepted. At the conference my lecture was received with interest. I was included in a mini-seminar with the theme narratives together with two other groups.

The 7th international conference on History and philosophy in Science Education took place in Winnipeg in Canada between July 30th and August 3rd 2003. Skyskrapor i Winnipeg It was exciting to have the opportunity to participate in a conference with this direction, above all as the program when it was presented contained a mini-seminar with three groups talking about narratives. I was the third participator in this presentation.
Travelling to Canada isn't uncomplicated. I had to change flights twice, in Copenhagen and in Toronto, before I finally landed in Winnipeg. Shop i Winnipeg There I had booked the charming hotel Ramada. Since I arrived already on monday evening I had some time to spend before the conference start with registration on wednesday afternoon.
Time that I used, except for preperation for the conference, to see the downtown of Winnipeg - Both the University of Winnipeg and my hotel were situated in the middle of everything so I just started of to explore the surroundings. Hudson Bay, varuhus The first evening I found the Forks, the old harbour area which was turned into a rather charming shopping- and restarant area. I had to compensate for an eventual jetlag so rather sleepy I had dinner at a pancake house and bought magnets for the refrigerator and some T-shirts. The following day I found the shopping centre of the city and the art museum. Finally, day tree, I found my way to Assiniboine Park, where theres was an English garden, zoo and a nice restaurant, before the conference started with registration and a reception at the conference hotel Radisson.
The conference went on between wednesday and saturday with many exciting lectures. Bakgård Exchange District Above all there were lectures abouts different aspects of The Nature of Science that were interesting for me. Besides I was clear awake when Arthur Stinner and Stephen Klassen talked about LCP, Large Context Problems, and their connection to narratives. We also had time to see a theatre show about Count Rumford one evening. The conference was terminated with a cruise on a wheel steamer on Red River and at that time I had got lots of new friends from all over the world, twentyone nations were represented in the very international conference.
I came home with a lot of inspiration for the continuing work with my dissertation and at the same time it was fun to see that my lecture was received with so much interest. I am really looking forward to the next meeting, 2005 in Leeds. Thanks to the Scientific Council of Sweden for finansing my trip!
