17th ICCE in Beijing, Kina                   August 6-10 2002

The 17th International Conference on Chemical Education, ICCE

In this conference I presented a poster. It was received with a lot of interest, which led to that I was asked if I wanted to write an article for the special issue of the Chinese Journal of Chemical Education that was edited after the conference. Of course I accepted this.

The 17th international conference on Chemical Education took place in Beijing in China between August 6th and 10th 2002. Of course it was exciting to have the possibility to visit a country like China, so filled with memories and monuments. We just had to see the temple of Heaven, Himmelens tempel,
Beijing 2002 The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace and the Chinese Wall when we were in Beijing. We were lucky because we arrived a couple of days early, the cheapest flight was Air China, which only was scheduled for sundays.
My travelling companion was Margareta Bergstrand, assistant professor at the Institute of Education in Stockholm. Together with assistant professor Birgitta Lindh and her husband Göran we visited the Temple of Heaven the first day. Day two we visited the city Himmelska fridens torg, Beijing 2002 and also found a store with lots of pearls and other necessities that we had to buy.
The conference went on from wednesday till saturday. We also found time for a visit to the Forbidden City in friday morning, before the poster presentations. My poster, which had Chinese signs on the first picture, was received with great interest by the international and the many chinese participants. Förbjudna staden, Beijing 2002 I was photographed with my poster a lot. There is a link to the poster below if you want to study it. If you want a summary you can see the one I sent to the conference in connection with applying for the conference.
The conference was terminated saturday afternoon with a visit to the Summer Palace and a banquet there. We were served a fantastic meal in one of the many palaces surrounding the Guilin, Kina 2002 artificial lake, after we had made a boat trip on it. On sunday we visited the Chinese Wall. There we were hit by terrible weather, which meant that we had to give up the climbing of the wall. The rain poured down and we had to buy new T-shirts with the suitable text "I climbed the great wall".
On monday a group went for a round tour in China. A small group of participants from the whole world (Sweden, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Israel and USA) visited Xian with the terracotta army and Guilin with fantastic mountains. Words arn't enough to describe all the impressions and experiences we had during our travelling. Before we went back home, via Beijing, we also had time to see Chinese Opera - also an experience above the usual! I am especially grateful to the scholarship funds of Stockholm university and the city of Stockholm for giving me the opportunity to make this journey and to participate in the conference.
