The formal diploma

What happens now and in the future?

Anna Ahlström's and Ellen Tersérus' scholarship

In June 2003, soon after midsummer, the longed-for message arrived. I had been awarded a grant from Anna Ahlström's and Ellen Tersérus' fund. It would make it possible to, during two years, work almost undisturbed with the research so that it would be possible to write a dissertation 2006. At a ceremony in the representative building of the Stockholm University, Ghost's Castle, I was formally awarded the grant.

This grant exists thanks to two clever women. When the board of the foundation with the two womens name had an economic surplus after the sale of a school they decided to use this money for the financing of research grants for women. Thus it's a great honour to be able to follow in the footsteps of Anna Ahlström and Ellen Tersérus and it is with excitement I look forward to the future.
I'm deeply grateful to the foundation that gave me the grant. In the autumn 2004 I was chosen to have a position as a graduate scholar at the Institute of Education in Stockholm for two years. The grant was very good but this position gives me social insurance which is rather important at my age. Since I still teach in the evenings at Åsö Vuxengymnasium my graduate student position lasts for two and a half years and I plan my dissertation towards summer 2006.
The first project I work with is to, together with my supervisor, write an overview article in English for publishing in an international journal. I've also done some interviews with stuidents.
Around Easter 2004 I participated in two international conferences together with my professor Per-Olof Wickman and my colleagues Britt Jakobsson and Iann Lundegård. It was the NARST conference in Vancouver and the AERA conference in San Diego. During the eight days between these conferences we drove between them, 3000 kilometers along the american westcoast. An experience never to be forgotten and which you can read more about  if you folow the links below. I've also prepared some pictures fromall the photos I took during the trip.
My plans for the coming year are to make som more intervies with students during the autumn after that to start the writing of the dissertation. I'm still not sure about if it's better to write in English or in Swedish.
