Conference in Seattle 2001

AERA – American Educational Research Association

Four members of the Research School wnt to Seattle during the Easter vacation 2001 in order to participate in the annual big conference. Our supervisor Per-Olof Wickman was giving a lecture and our trip was generously sponsored by The Ålen's foundation in Stockholm. 
 
Konstmuseum Gata i Seattle The trip to Seattle is long and we had to change flight in London. We stayed at a small motel rather central with only a couple of hundred meters to walk to reach downtown Seattle was a really american city, with a "downtown" and scyscrapers.
    The conference was big, there were lots of parallel Konferensen var stor, det var massor med parallella sessions and it was hard to get an overview. We had to walk between the different sessions, located at different hotels and in the conference centre, in order to listen to as many lectores as possible. Among other things I spoke and shaked hands with professor James V. Wertsch.
    We also met professor Douglas Roberts who is a friend of Sweden. One evening we had dinner with him at a restaurant in one of the piers. Otherwise, the most important tourist attraction odf Seattle, seemed to be that this was were the movie "Sleepless in Seattle" with Tom Hanks was filmed. You could buy nightgowns with that motive and there were boat trips to the area of house boats where the film was produced. We refrained from this pleasure and instead went up in the famous Space Needle
